VetoMatic’s Best Partial-Veto Contest Winners

There were lots of excellent entries to the VetoMatic best partial-veto contest, but I think I finally have a good list of winners.  It wasn’t easy to pick, so I used a points system with these 5 categories:

  1. personal benefit to the "governor"
  2. restriction of personal freedom
  3. humor (given significant weight)
  4. how “proper” the wording of the law is
  5. realism

Out of about 50 valid entries, the winners are:

Note: because of a bug in the software I wrote to record entries, I don't know who to attribute entries to. Sorry 'bout that.

1st Place (tie)
“The governor may party all day in an intoxicated state.”

1st Place (tie)
“The Governor will be the chief dog when it comes to showing the women of Wisconsin a good time”

3rd Place (tie)
“The Legislature authorizes the Department of Revenue to create and implement any tax it deems necessary to fund any expenditure approved by the Secretary of the Department of Administration.”

3rd Place (tie)
“The Capitol shall be made an adult entertainment center.”

5th Place
“All Wisconsin residents will take a dog as a domestic partner, as the governor requires such relationships between humans and animals. Refusal to comply will be punishable by death.”

Congratulations winners!

Honorable Mentions

These weren’t submitted to the competition, but I think they deserve mention:

DailyTakes:
For pointing out that “Liberty” is conspicuously missing in the budget.

Unknown:
“the assembly chief clerk may kill two people per year”
That could be useful.. though maybe not constitutional.

Boots & Sabers:
“the city of milwaukee shall be given to Illinois”
All of our problems have been solved!  Not sure they would want it though.
